n the days
before nursing uniforms were obsolete, the “capping
ceremony” was a high point in a nursing student’s career.
The ceremony took place during the middle of the first year of studies
and marked a passage to the next level of the profession. Often a
faculty member or a fellow student would do the honors of placing
the cap. Here,
19-year-old Frances Bullock beams as she receives her cap in 1943.
