MASTER'S PROGRAMS
WOMEN'S HEALTH CLINICAL NURSE SPECIALIST - MIDWIFERY TRACK

The Women's Health Clinical Nurse Specialist/Nurse-Midwifery Track is offered by the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing in collaboration with Shenandoah University. The Nurse-Midwifery Track at Shenandoah University is fully accredited by the American College of Nurse-Midwives.

This program prepares graduates as a women's health clinical nurse specialist and a certified nurse-midwife. Graduates will receive a Master of Science in Nursing from Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing and a certificate of completion of the nurse - midwifery program from Shenandoah University. Graduates are eligible to sit for the national certification exam given by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB).

Course content focuses on role development, advanced assessment and management of women's health, and primary women's health throughout the lifespan. More than 720 hours of clinical experience are offered in all aspects of the midwifery process in a wide variety of ambulatory and community sites, including rural and medically underserved health care settings. Full-time or part-time study is available.

Enhanced informatics technology, course development, and program recruitment is made possible by three years of funding from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The $688,500 grant, awarded to SUDON, aims to increase the number of practicing nurse-midwives in the rural underserved areas of Virginia, but will also benefit Hopkins students who choose to work in other locations after graduation.

Questions regarding curriculum and career opportunities should be addressed to Dr. Nancy Woods at 410-502-3254 or awoods1@son.jhmi.edu.
