Advanced Forensic Nursing Certificate

Apply Now to this Program The Advanced Forensic Nursing Certificate is a 12-credit, two-semester graduate option offered in an executive style format including on-line and limited on-site (in residence) coursework. Clinical experiences will include a diverse range of environments such as emergency and acute care departments; sexual assault examination programs; child and/or adult protective service investigation units; psychiatric forensic treatment and evaluation units; death investigation teams, and governmental and non-governmental agencies. GRE scores are not required.

Upon completion of this certificate, the graduate will be prepared to:

  • recognize injury pathology throughout the life span
  • collaborate with criminologists, members of the justice system, and related healthcare professionals
  • demonstrate key elements necessary for comprehensive emergency and disaster preparedness
  • understand federal and state-level policies related to victim services

Students may begin coursework in either the fall or spring semester.

Spring 2009

NR 300.634: Concepts and Principles of Disaster Preparedness, Management and Response (three days on-site - January 22, 23 and 24, 2009 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, plus 7 weeks of online discussion boards)

NR 300.635: Forensic Assessment and Documentation of Physical and Psychological Traumas (three days on-site - March 26, 27 and 28, 2009 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, plus 7 weeks of online discussion boards)

Fall 2009

NR 300.633: Injury Pathology

NR 210.802: Advanced Nursing Health Policy (on-line course)

Admission Requirements:

  • Baccalaureate degree from an NLNAC or CCNE accredited program
  • Master's degree in nursing, education or a health-related discipline
  • Clinical experience in a forensic nursing related field or an introductory college level course in Forensic Nursing
  • Successful completion of a graduate level pathophysiology course
  • Application with goal statement
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Official college transcript from all colleges/universities attended
  • A current RN license
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale
  • A current resume or curriculum vitae
  • A criminal background check
  • An interview with faculty may be requested

Tuition: $2,500 per course
