Description of main volunteer activities:
I was stationed in a remote Hausa-speaking village in the Sub-Saharan region of Niger. I worked as a Community Health Volunteer, facilitating interaction between community members, local government officials and non-governmental organizations to encourage an exchange of resources and information. I worked to increase health, sanitation, and hygiene in my community, and focused particularly on assisting mothers with malnourished children. I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity that I did. I laughed, cried, worked side by side, and built bonds with people from such a vastly different and beautiful culture. My Peace Corps experience was an adventure, both challenging and inspiring, and it has led me to JHUSON so that I can continue my international health care work with nursing skills.
