Description of main volunteer activities:
My primary responsibility was teaching biology, math and physical science to students in grades 9-12. Between classes and after school I worked to organize and open the school library and tutor students. I also collaborated with a health PCV and my school to run a gardening club through which we taught students and fellow teachers about nutrition and the medicinal value of many native plants.
How Peace Corps service influenced decision to go into nursing and future plans:
As a teacher I committed myself to providing my students with a solid academic education, but it was my student’s health and health education that interested me most. I quickly realized that in order for my students to live productive lives they needed to live healthy lives. Recognizing the significance of health in my students’ lives is one of the main reasons I chose to pursue a career in health care
