Description of main volunteer activities:
I was primarily attached to Iten district hospital in the highlands of North Central Kenya an area made famous by its’ world class distance runners. I assisted with vaccination campaigns, birth attendant training, HIV/AIDS counseling and testing and a feeding program for orphans and vulnerable children. I was also a member of the Gender and development committee and co-director of Camp G.L.O.W. (girls leading our world) a leadership camp for Kenyan high school girls
How Peace Corps service influenced decision to go into nursing and future plans:
I had the pleasure to work with a nurse as my counterpart. Seeing Ruth in action and all of the individuals she was able to impact and how much she enjoyed her work influence me greatly.
Impact of RPCV Fellows experience:
The international ties of faculty and fellow students has been a wonderful addition to the course work. The community outreach portion of the fellows program helps to apply classroom knowledge. Beyond knowledge application working in the underserved areas of Baltimore help to ground and focus the student experience.
