Baccalaureate Program - Merit Scholarships and Awards

While most financial aid is based on need, many students also benefit from awards based on merit. Below is a partial listing of available scholarship programs:

The JHU School of Nursing Merit Scholarships: A limited number of half-tuition awards are available through this competitive program. Awards are made to those applicants who, in the judgment of the faculty, have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership capabilities, and extra-curricular involvement. Students interested in this award should complete the Merit Scholarship Application. Decisions are made by the Admissions Committee and questions can be addressed to the Office of Admissions and Student Services.

Peace Corps Fellows Scholarship: Provided by the School of Nursing to assist those students who have served in the Peace Corps. These competitive scholarships are intended to assist RPCV's who have been accepted into the Peace Corps Fellows Program. Priority consideration will go to students who have returned from volunteer service within the last 24 months. The scholarship is in the amount of $12,500 for the academic program with $3,125 disbursed each academic term.

Maryland State Nursing Scholarship and Living Expense Grant: The Nursing Scholarship is available to Maryland residents enrolled in full-time and part-time programs. Recipients are competitively selected by the State Scholarship Administration on the basis of academic performance and acceptance into a degree program. The maximum award is $3,000 for an academic year. (An additional $1,500 may be available for students whose program requires summer classes.) Recipients must earn at least six credits each semester and must agree to work in the State of Maryland as a nurse for one year for each year the award is granted.

The Living Expense Grant is a need-based component of the Nursing scholarship designed to provide financial assistance to the recipients who demonstrate financial need. The maximum award is $3,000 per academic year. (No funding is available through the Living Expense Grant for summer study.)

The Nursing Scholarship/Living Expense Grant Application is available through the Maryland Higher Education Commission's website at http://www.mhec.state.md.us/ and must be submitted by June 30th. (For consideration for the Living Expense Grant, the FAFSA must be completed by March 1st.)
