The applicant's dependency status determines whose financial information must be reported on the application. Independent students must report their and, if married, their spouse's income and assets. All graduate students are independent.

Dependent students must report their parents' income and assets as well as their own. A dependent student is typically under the age of 24, unmarried, and has no dependants. The School of Nursing follows the federal definition of dependency status in awarding institutional funds. A student entering the program as a dependent student will remain in that status throughout their undergraduate studies at the school. Note that additional documentation may be requested in order to clarify the applicant's financial status.

Complete your FAFSA online by using FAFSA on the Web.

You will need a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to electronically sign and submit your FAFSA. Parents of dependent students must also have a pin.

Before filing out the online FAFSA, we encourage you to complete the FAFSA on the Web Worksheet. The worksheet will allow you to read and complete the questions before entering your information online.

If you have not completed your 2007 federal income tax return you can use estimated data to complete the FAFSA. However, when you file your tax return, you must update any income or tax information that changed since you filed your FAFSA.

Pay particular attention to the following sections when completing your FAFSA:

  • Step 1 question #31 - DO NOT LEAVE THIS QUESTION BLANK. If you have NEVER been convicted of an offense, fill in the "no" oval.
  • Step 2 (student) questions #40-42 - Carefully review the instructions for the types of income to report on Worksheets A, B, and C.
  • Step 4 (parent) questions #84-86 - Carefully review the instructions for the types of income to report on Worksheets A, B, and C.
  • Step 6 question #97 - enter Johns Hopkins University SCHOOL OF NURSING and our Federal School Code-E00476.

After submitting your FAFSA, the U.S. Department of Education will send you a Student Aid Report (SAR). The SAR will summarize the data that you reported on your FAFSA. Carefully review the information on your SAR. Make sure that all information is correct and Johns Hopkins University SCHOOL OF NURSING (E00476) is listed as a recipient of your application. If you need to make changes to your SAR, you should go to the FAFSA Corrections on the Web page and click on the "Make Corrections to a Processed FAFSA" link.

Application Deadline - For optimum consideration students should complete the application process by March 1st. To be considered for state aid Maryland residents must complete the FAFSA by March 1st. Non-Maryland residents must follow the application deadlines posted by their state of residency.
