Course Detail
Description: This course is designed to introduce the student to factors that impact on the professional practice of nursing and the development of the nursing role. Environmental factors that influence the delivery of health care and the practice of nursing will be explored. Social, economic, and historical factors related to the nursing role will be explored. Current issues of health care financing, quality and safety in health care settings, international health care, and the role of alternative therapies will be presented. Content related to ethcis and ethical frameworks will be explored. Research concepts, including evidence based practice models will be major focus of this course. Legal parameters, including examination of Nurse Practice Acts will be presented. Students will have an opportunity to use critical thinking skills by developing an individualized project on a topic of their choice that relates to a course objective. Prerequisites: None.
