NR110.302 Foundations of Nursing Practice
Description: This course is designed to introduce the beginning nursing student to the nursing process and its use in meeting a patient's need for health maintenance, health promotion, and disease prevention. During the assessment phase, the principles of interviewing and therapeutic communication will be presented and applied, and techniques of physical assessment will be demonstrated and practiced. The concept of health education for the individual patient and family members will be introduced as well as basic teaching-learning principles. Teh value of interdisciplinary collaboration and inclusion of patient and family in care is emphasized. Course activities are designed to enhance the student's critical thinking and to develop their therapeutic communication skills. The focus of this course is on the nursing care of the adult patient with an emphasis on a holistic approach to promoting wellness and maximizing quality of life in a variety of settings. Selected psychomotor skills pertaining to care of adult patients are introduced through independent and guided laboratory and/or clinical experiences. Pre/corequisites: NR 110.303, 110.304 and 110.305
