NR110.433 Fuld Leadership Fellows in Clinical Nursing
Description: The Leadership Fellows Program in Clinical Nursing is a theory and clinical course designed to augment the leadership experience with a specific quality and/or safety project in a multidisciplinary team. The theory component will be a leadership seminar focusing on topics such as: team building skills, understanding and embracing a team project leadership role, project follwership (delegation, conflict), team negotiation, the science of quality, evidence-based practice, quality improvement tools, data management and presentation, and problem solving models and strategies. The clinical component will provide experiential learning and problem solving at the bedside for the student paired with a mentor. The mentor will guide the student through the process of 1) identifying and thinking critically about a clinical quality or safety problem, 2) taking the lead within a multidisciplinary team, and 3) presenting their ideas for implementation. Special emphasis will be placed on competencies required to assume leadership positions, the valuable interaction with a mentor, an increased understanding of the broader context in which the nursing profession functions, and the importance of quality and safety in the business of health care.
