STUDENT LIFE: STUDENT COUNSELING CENTER
The
Johns Hopkins University
Counseling Center
is located in Garland Hall on the Homewood campus, and can be reached at
410-516-8278. A clinical psychologist from the center is also on site
at the School of Nursing one afternoon a week. Nursing students can be
seen at either location.
The center provides a broad range of professional services designed to help
students enhance their personal growth, enrich their lives and maximize their
ability to function successfully in their academic and professional capacities.
Counseling services include short-term individual therapy, group therapy
(e.g., Survivors of Sexual Abuse, Graduate Women's Support Group, Parent Loss,
etc.), substance abuse counseling, crisis intervention, and workshops on various
themes (e.g., stress management, assertiveness skills, and interpersonal
relationships, etc.).
Counseling Center staff members are also available to students and staff to
address group or community needs from a psychological perspective.
The Counseling Center is staffed by psychologists, psychiatrists, social
workers, and a substance abuse counselor.
All contacts at the center are strictly confidential. No information is
released on or off campus without the student's prior written authorization,
except in those rare occasions where it is required by law (e.g., where there is
imminent danger of violence to self or others, etc.).
Students may make appointments for professional services by coming into the
center office at the Homewood campus or by telephoning 410-516-8278.
Counseling is typically by appointment only, but a professional staff member
is available at the Homewood office Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00
p.m. for emergencies. A counselor can also be reached in an emergency at night
or on weekends by calling Homewood Security, 410-516-7777.
