STUDENT LIFE: RECREATION AND ATHLETICS
The Department of
Athletics and Recreations is responsible for inter-collegiate athletics and
the Homewood campus recreational program for students and faculty.
Facilities on the East Baltimore Campus
The
Denton A. Cooley
Center adjacent to Reed Hall on the East Baltimore campus is available to
all School of Nursing students at reduced rates. The facility houses a
gymnasium, indoor track, squash and racquetball courts, three exercise areas,
shower and locker facilities, and saunas. Three outdoor lighted tennis courts
are also part of the complex.
The outdoor
Alumni Pool, adjacent to Reed Hall, is open from June through August.
Programs offered through the center include intramurals, tournaments, exercise
programs, and lessons in racquetball, tennis, squash, aerobics, etc.
Facilities on the Homewood Campus
At the Homewood campus the
Newton H. White Jr. Athletic Center has a competition-sized swimming pool
with separate diving pool. For Varsity use, the athletic center also has
basketball courts, a wrestling room, a fencing room, a weight training room, and
locker rooms.
Attached to the athletic center , the new
Ralph S. O'Conner Recreation Center includes a large multipurpose court for
basketball, volleyball, and badminton; racquetball/squash courts, a 30' climbing
wall; a fitness center for strength and weight conditioning; an indoor jogging
track; day-use locker rooms. Renovations to the swimming pool include enhanced
lighting, windows, and day-use varsity locker rooms.
With the opening of the new Recreation Center, all participants will be
assessed a fee. For information regarding cost and hours of operation, please

Outdoor facilities at the Homewood Campus include an all weather track, open
7:00 a.m to 10:00 p.m. except during intercollegiate practices or games. There
are six tennis courts, which are also available when not in use by the varsity
tennis teams. Garland Field and the intramural field may be reserved by

Recreation Sports
The
Office of Recreational
Sports also offers a variety of club sport programs. Currently, club
programs are available in cheerleading, cycling, dodgeball, golf, men's ice
hockey, kickboxing, kung fu, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's
rugby, shotokan karate, men's and women's soccer, women's softball, soo bahk do,
tae kwan do, table tennis, tennis, ultimate frisbee, men's volleyball, and hun
he shi karate.
