Nurses in D.C.

More than 100 SON nursing students visited Capitol Hill last week to meet with Congressional leaders. One of the highlights of the day included students, pictured here, meeting with Senator Barbara Mikulski.  They also attended a press conference with Congressmen Elijah Cummings and Dutch Ruppersberger, who were critical of the President's 2009 budget request, which cuts funding for nursing workforce programs and eliminates funding for the Advanced Education Nursing Program. Senator Mikulski also spoke out saying, "Our nation is facing an ongoing shortage of nurses and it's only getting worse. I will continue to fight for nurses, who are so critical to our health care system."
