DNP Program Launches in January
This month, 25 nurses enter the new Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. Their studies will prepare them as expert nurse clinicians, administrators, and executive leaders who will lead the way in improving health and health care outcomes.
Remembering Vicki Mock
 Victoria (Vicki) Mock, PhD, RN, FAAN, Professor and Chair of the school's new Department of Health Systems and Outcomes, died November 15, 2007. She was internationally known for her research in symptom management for patients receiving cancer treatment. A memorial service and reception will be held Monday, January 14 at 4pm in the School of Nursing's Alumni Auditorium.
 The SON Seeks Your Opinion
According to a 2005 Census Bureau report, 1-out-of-5 Americans-some 72 million people-will be 65 years or older by 2030, double the current 12% of the population. As the world prepares for this 'silver tsunami,' the SON asks:
"What areas of expertise will be essential to nursing practice as the population ages?"
Did You Know?
The Anne M. Pinkard building opened in January 1998 as the first Johns Hopkins University building dedicated solely to nursing education. Ten years later, our student body has grown 34% (from 462 in 1998 to 620 today) and our faculty has grown 20% (from 56 full-time faculty to 67).
