Cancer
Patient Navigation Study
Funded by the Center for Collaborative Intervention Research (P30NR008995),
the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the American Cancer Society
The objective of the proposed study is to develop, refine, and conduct
preliminary testing of a nurse-led community health worker intervention to
provide culturally appropriate cancer patient navigation (CPN) for rural
African American elders.

rural elementary school children with asthma.
Arts Based Anti-Violence Program
CDC Funded Study US4/CCU319009 from 10/2000-9/2005
This
project further develops and evaluates an existing Historic East
Baltimore (HEBCAC) anti-violence Summer Theatre Project to involve
students from five middle schools in Baltimore and Washington, DC in a
year round after-school mentoring and arts based anti-violence program.

during the first six months of their infants' lives is being conducted.
The Center on Health Disparities Research
NIH Funded
Study P20NR008375 from 9/2002-6/2009
The CHDR was created in 2001 with a five-year grant received from
the National Institutes of Health (NIH) with the purpose of
identifying and eliminating health disparities and enhancing health
disparities research. As the result of a
partnership between Johns Hopkins University School
of Nursing
and
North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University School of
Nursing, the Center is one of eight partnerships funded by the
NIH National Institute of Nursing Research and the NIH National
Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities to study
disparities in health care.
Comprehensive Hypertension Care in Young Urban Black Men
NIH Funded Study R01NR004119 from 6/1996-5/1999
The study
shows that personalized care and attention given by a research team can lower
high blood pressure significantly in urban, black men. The study is significant
because it targets some of the most vulnerable African American men who are at
high risk for the effects of uncontrolled blood pressure such as stroke, heart
failure and kidney failure. Additional social, economic, environmental and
educational burdens make it difficult for members of this population to
participate in regular medical care or make behavioral changes for health
improvement.
Domestic Violence Enhanced Home Visitation Intervention (DOVE)
Project
NIH Funded Study R01NR009093 from 2/2006-11/2010
This
study will rigorously test the effectiveness of an innovative intervention,
which has the potential to improve the health of a significant number of women
who experience intimate partner violence during pregnancy.
The FACT Study - Fatigue and Cancer Treatment
NIH
Funded Study R01NR004991 from 7/2001-3/2007
The purpose of this
randomized controlled trial is to determine the effects of a nurse-directed,
home-based walking exercise program to mitigate fatigue and maintain physical
functioning during adjuvant therapy for breast, prostate and colo-rectal cancer
patients.
Homicide
Research Study
NIH Funded Study R01DA011156 from
9/1996-8/1999
The primary aim of this study is to identify factors
that identify women who are at high risk for homicide. This site also provides
information on the Danger Assessment instrument.
Interdisciplinary Violence Research
NIH Funded Study
P20NR008375 from 9/2002-6/2009
This Interdisciplinary Violence
Research fellows program at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing
offers an exceptional opportunity for students interested in the causes, effects
and prevention of violence.
Korean American Study
NIH Funded Study R01HL085567
from 9/2006-7/2011
The primary purpose of this web site is to share data
and information on Korean American health research.

and Family Decision Making in Critical Illness
NIH Funded
Study R01NR008727 from 6/2005 - 5/2009

donating a kidney, or adhering to immunosuppressive therapy.
Primary and Secondary Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease
NIH Funded Study R01HL0826383 from 2005 - 2010
This
program of research focuses on the primary and secondary prevention of
cardiovascular disease, the number one killer of both men and women in the US.
Several funded projects including a randomized clinical trial of nurse case
management to control cholesterol, a study of barriers to and facilitators of
cardiac rehabilitation for women, and a randomized controlled trial of soy and
lipoproteins in postmenopausal women, are highlighted.
