CHDR PROGRAMS

Funding Opportunities

The CHDR provides grants for pilot/feasibility studies focusing on health disparities - in access to care, processes of care, and health outcomes - as they relate to health promotion, symptom management, or domestic violence.  Principal Investigators must be new investigators with less than $100,000 of external funding.  Funds are available to research teams of faculty from the Johns Hopkins University and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University Schools of Nursing.(Pilot/Feasibility Core)

Other funding opportunities are available through the Johns Hopkins University, Foundations, Federal Agencies, and other organizations.

Scholars Program in Pain Management

Through a $50,000 grant from Purdue Pharma L.P and $5,000 from Johnson & Johnson,  Health Disparities Center (HDC) Scholars focus on processes of care and health disparities in pain management through the use of a variety of qualitative research approaches. (Administrative Core)

The first two HDC Scholars are Phyllis Mason, MS, RN, CANP, Instructor; and Amanda Stefancyk, BSN, Graduate Student. They are currently working on the Storytelling Project, through which the Center hopes to gain a better understanding of the circumstances surrounding disparities in health care as experienced by the pain patient.
