Chair, Department of Health Systems and Outcomes
This position is appointed by, reports to, and serves at the pleasure of the School of Nursing Dean and works closely with senior administrators to provide leadership and direction for academic departments.
Major Responsibilities
1. Lead and manage the department; establish department priorities, in consultation with the senior leadership and faculty, that align with the School’s strategic plan
2. Develop & maintain a collaborative, learning environment within which faculty, staff, and students can be successful
3. Assess department faculty development needs and implement a faculty development plan; this may include the assignment of mentors to assist the faculty member with research and/or teaching needs and activities with other departments
4. Build and sustain a culture that supports and encourages excellence in teaching, research, scholarship and practice
5. Determine appropriate levels for individual faculty member effort (workloads) including teaching, in consultation with Program Directors
6. Mentor, develop, evaluate, and recommend faculty for promotion
7. Participate in recruitment efforts and work closely with the Standing Search Committee and ad hoc Search Committees
8. Develop and identify opportunities for students across programs that relate to the department (i.e. participation in professional meetings with posters/papers, research projects of department faculty, pre or post-doc funding opportunities)
9. Support staff professional development by providing an environment that encourages staff to actively engage in training opportunities
10. Manage delegated financial aspects of their operation
11. Conduct faculty annual reviews, with consultation from Program Directors and administrators as well as in put from students and staff.
12. Support faculty in implementation of academic policies, including student advisement
13. Assess faculty strengths and areas needing improvement with regard to the teaching role in collaboration with Program Directors
14. Promote diversity and equal opportunity in program administration and personnel practices
15. Identify/coordinate faculty recognition strategies i.e. nomination for awards
16. Effectively represent the department and work with other department leaders and administrators within the School and the University with a cooperative and collaborative spirit
Qualifications

4.A strong and demonstrated commitment to faculty development and mentorship for teaching, research, scholarship, and practice
